AbleSpeak Privacy Policy

How the Web navigation Chrome extension uses your microphone, the pages you visit and your settings.

Last updated: 9 July 2026

Summary

AbleSpeak is a Chrome extension built by Tunga Innovation Ltd that lets people control the web by voice. This policy covers the AbleSpeak browser extension ("Tier 1"). In short: your voice audio is processed to recognise commands, is never sold, and is never sent to Tunga Innovation Ltd or any third party for storage.

What AbleSpeak accesses, and why

  • Microphone audio — used only to recognise the voice commands you speak. By default, audio is processed by your browser's built-in Web Speech API (the same engine Chrome uses for dictation); this audio is sent to Google's speech-recognition service exactly as it would be for any other website using this Chrome API, and is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not AbleSpeak's. If you run the optional local Whisper server (bundled with the desktop "Tier 2" app), audio instead goes only tolocalhoston your own machine and never leaves your computer. AbleSpeak itself does not record, store, or transmit your audio anywhere.
  • Page content ("host permissions") — used to read visible text and clickable elements on the page you are viewing so voice commands like "click the Wikipedia link" or "scroll down" can act on that page. This happens locally in your browser; page content is not transmitted anywhere.
  • Local storage — your settings (language, auto-pause preference, etc.) and any personal voice shortcuts you create ("remember this as my name") are saved using Chrome'sstorage.local, which stays on your device and syncs only through your own Google account if you have Chrome sync enabled — Tunga Innovation Ltd cannot access it.
  • Tabs and downloads — used only to carry out commands you speak, such as "new tab," "close tab," or "go back." AbleSpeak does not read your browsing history or monitor tabs you are not actively commanding.
  • Text-to-speech — AbleSpeak reads confirmations back to you (e.g. "Playing Rihanna") using Chrome's built-in TTS engine, entirely on-device.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
  • We do not run advertising or ad-tracking of any kind.
  • We do not use your data to train AI models.
  • We do not have a server that receives your voice recordings.

Data retention and control

Settings and personal shortcuts are stored only in your browser and remain there until you remove them yourself — say "forget everything" to clear all AbleSpeak memory instantly, or use the extension's settings panel. Uninstalling AbleSpeak removes all locally stored data.

Children's use

AbleSpeak is designed to be usable by children with motor disabilities in an educational setting under adult or institutional supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information from any user, child or adult, because AbleSpeak does not transmit voice or usage data to our servers in the first place.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and, for material changes, we will note it on this page.
